I love Bioshock, I really do. the big daddy's are by far my favourite thing out of it all, they are technically the only noble characters in the game what with being fatherly and brave by the very nature of their existence.
Anyway back to the actual critique, I really like this piece because its not only a somewhat light-hearted look at things but its actually very well done. the actual quality of the piece is something I could easily see in a "Bioshock: before Bioshock" comic about day to day life in rapture (what with the little sister and BD looking relatively clean and fresh compared to the run-down Rapture we're all used to).
Of course if it started raining in rapture your already dead by the time you get to a brolly but that's beside the point.
The Vision of the piece is rated highly because it definitely gets across the artists idea behind the item, a little gel scolding her big bold friend who's holding a little umbrella above her amusingly. the artist wanted to do something and he did it, no two ways about it.
The Originality of this is rated somewhat low because when hasn't in fiction a big guy held an umbrella for a small gel? its practically a cliché nowadays (Totorro anyone?) but that doesn't make the art bad in any way, its just been done before.
But what matters is not who did it first, but who did it best.
and that takes me to the Technique and Impact, both rated highly. Reason being that this piece out of all the other Bioshock art on the sight actually stood out to me (probably the stark white background, whilst a background would be nice it isn't necessary in this piece. the joke is simple enough to get without clutter in the back.) also as I have mentioned before the art is of a high quality, the kind of thing I can honestly see in an official artwork for the game itself.
In short whilst a big guy being bossed around by a little girl isn't the most original thing in the box, its so well done, and stands out so much that it doesn't matter.
Now thanks to you I have an urge to un-bury Bioshock 1, I hope your happy.
